Introduction to Marine diesel engine parts: Thrust head

Thrust head: A component used to install the mirror plate and transfer the axial force from the main shaft to the thrust bearing mirror plate. The thrust head and the mirror plate of a high-speed hydroelectric generator or generator motor are cast as one piece and are called "thrust head mirror plate", or the thrust head, mirror plate and the main shaft are cast as one piece.

Thrust disk: A disc that transmits the axial thrust of the rotor to the thrust bearing. The thrust pads are installed on both sides of the thrust plate. There is a wedge-shaped oil film between the thrust pads and the thrust plate to maintain lubrication and prevent bearing wear.

For single-cylinder units, the thrust plate is installed on the high-pressure side of the turbine rotor, usually inside the front box. The purpose of this arrangement is that when the unit is turned, the rotor needs to produce axial displacement towards the generator. However, for large units (intermediate reheating units), the thrust plate is not placed in the front box but in the turning box, because when the intermediate reheating unit is in thrust, the turbine rotor generates axial displacement towards the turbine head rather than the generator.

Thrust bearing: In thrust bearings, it can freely and flexibly swing on a fixed support body, forming a dynamic pressure oil film lubrication and load-bearing with the mirror plate. It is a fan-shaped component composed of a friction surface layer and a bearing blank.
