L28/32 Diesel Engine Accessories Introduction Thrust Head
Thrust head: It is used to install the mirror plate and transfer the axial force from the main shaft to the thrust bearing mirror plate. The thrust head and mirror plate of a high-speed hydro generator or generator motor are cast into a whole, which is called "thrust head mirror plate", or the thrust head and mirror plate are cast into a whole with the main shaft.
The thrust pads for marine diesel engine accessories are installed on both sides of the thrust disc, and wedge-shaped oil film is provided between the thrust pads and the thrust disc to maintain lubrication and prevent wear of the pads. For single cylinder units, the thrust disc is installed at the high pressure side of the turbine rotor, usually in the front box. The purpose of this arrangement is that the rotor will produce axial displacement towards the generator during impulse starting of the unit. However, for large units (intermediate reheat units), the thrust disc is not arranged in the front box, but in the turning gear box, because during impulse starting of intermediate reheat units, the turbine rotor produces axial displacement towards the turbine head rather than the generator.
